We stopped briefly to hike the Chihuahuan Desert Nature Trail at Dugout Wells, a long-lost cultural center in the middle of Big Bend. There was a small oasis here with a windmill pumping out a small amount of water. This photo is of a cactus that is native to the Chihuahuan Desert. It obtained its common name from the fact that the tiny spines are capable of being blown by the wind. Its reported that these wind-borne daggers would get caught in the livestock's eyes - blinding them.
